More about SNOR...

Diners across the Northwest are becoming increasingly concerned about Sustainability issues, Natural products, Organic foods, and in supporting the Regional economy. Food Services of America is the region’s primary foodservice distributor, delivering quality food products to restaurants, schools and healthcare facilities across the Northwest. As a leading steward of the community, Food Services of America recognizes and embraces its responsibility to support a healthy and renewable food source as well as a strong and sustainable economy.

The SNOR™ campaign is a symbol of that resolve. An acronym for Sustainable, Natural, Organic and Regional, SNOR™ conveys the industry’s commitment to the growing concern for our food supplies and earth-friendly initiatives. The ‘sleeping giant’ is a tribute to the local restaurateurs who have taken the banner for environmental responsibility in hand and have acknowledged their responsibility to awaken their community for the welfare of future generations. Look for the SNOR™ sleeping giant at your neighborhood restaurant!

What do each of these terms mean?

SUSTAINABLE
Products are designated sustainable by a recognized third-party certifier. Certification ensures the future availability and health of the resources used to produce a product or service.

NATURAL

Products derived from natural (non-synthetic) food sources. Any alterations during production and processing must not change the composition of the original product.

ORGANIC

Products grown within the standards and requirements of the USDA Organic Code.

REGIONAL

Our region is the Pacific Northwest. It consists of Oregon, Washington, Western Idaho, Northern California, and Southern British Columbia.

Dining Out In The NorthWest™ and Food Services of America support sustainable agriculture through their association with Edible Portland and the Food Alliance and sustainable products like Shepherd’s Grain and fresh produce. Food Services of America supports the ‘Natural movement’ with products like Misty Isle Beef.

We also support organic lifestyles thru partnership with Earthbound Farms, the Organically Grown Company, and many local farmers. Food Services of America supports the community, the economic, and the cultural identity of the Northwest through sponsorship of the Dining Out In The NorthWest™ (DO IT NW™) Campaign, through relationships with community organizations like Loaves and Fishes, and through partnership with hundreds of regional manufacturers and growers.
